This thread is for discussion of any of the fantastic S-RPG games made by the company Nippon Ichi. As of this writing, they are Disgaea, La Pucelle Tactics, Phantom Brave, Makai Kingdom, and the upcoming Disgaea 2.
I've been working on the Phantom Brave post-game bosses. My characters are nearing level 300, and I've gotten to the level 2000 guy. Good lord, is he hard...
I might post up some stats for my party if anybody cares.
Currently, the average level for my fighters is 315, and I'm using 6, including Marona. I'm still a ways to go before I can beat that guy...

Just wondering if Phantom Brave is any good, and is it like Disgaea?

Phantom Brave is pretty good. There are people who don't like it, but if you like it, you love it. There are many similarities to Disgaea: similar stat system, graphic style, general approach to the gameplay. There are also a ton of references to Disgaea. (Examples: You can make Prinnies and Archers, and some optional bosses are from Disgaea. When talking to people, some might mention stuff about the Prism Rangers or the "Nin nin!" line.) However, the combat is radically different.
Instead of fighting on a grid, there is a free range system. This ends up being a little less strategic, but just as fun.
As for the post game, I prefer Phantom Brave's. It's more focused on using a party of people rather than just getting one guy godly attack power. The upgrading of items is also less repetative. (Failure Fusion! Yay!)
Story wise, Disgaea wins. Phantom Brave's isn't bad, and it has the same high quality Japanese voice acting that Disgaea had. However, Phantom Brave takes a bit to get going on the plot and has downright annoying English voices, unlike Disgaea.
Overall, I'd say it's a worthy purchase, especially since you can get it for about $15. Also, Walnut is awesome and nobody can tell you otherwise.
